| After almost 15 years of waiting, the eThekwini Municipality has given renowned Durban filmmaker Anant Singh the go-ahead to erect a R7 billion project, to be known as eThekwini Film City, on the prime coastal site commonly known as the old Natal Command.
The SA National Defence Force still owns a portion of the 21ha prime site and the eThekwini Municipality is actively pursuing the transfer of the whole of the land from the state back to the city. This project has attracted much attention over the years. Singh struck a deal with the city to purchase this prime site on Durban's beachfront, adjacent to the Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World, for R15 million in 2003.
